INTRODUCTION  
The number of enrolled students at Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy has increased about 70% since 1989, many of them being international students. Due to this, they now teach many courses in both French and English. They have a long-standing history in their Department of Medicine so it has become the backbone of their many programs.
CLUJ NAPOCA  
The city of Cluj Napoca is located in the central region of Transylvania, in a valley amongst the hills. The city is a major academic, cultural and industrial center in Romania and also houses six different universities therefore it has many appealing attractions.

While studying at the Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy you can visit some of Romania’s many attractions. You could tour the controversial castle of Dracula; get your feet wet in the Danube Delta or the Black Sea, or ogle at the many architectural styles that the country has to offer, from Baroque and Renaissance to Neoclassical and Romanesque. Another point of interest is the Palace of Parliament (2nd largest in the world).


THE IULIU HATIEGANU UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY
The Iuliu Hatieganu University is a reputable institution known both nationally and internationally for its commitment to excellence and performance. Its foundations began in the Middle Ages and developed toward the end of the 19th and early 20th Century. Its now modernized facilities equip any student with the devices needed for a quality education. During your free time, students have the option to play sports in the Sports Center or attend cultural attractions within the city.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
The courses may take a variety of formats from training, seminars, compulsory and optional disciplines, practical activities and examinations. They also emphasize skills such as communication, observation, clinical skills, patient relations, and the computer proficiency. Methods of assessment vary with each course, from written examinations and seminar work, to oral and practical examinations.

The courses and lectures are located in different areas throughout the city, some in hospitals or laboratories and others in university clinics. All the buildings of the University are located within 10 minutes walking distance from each other. The student halls and eating facilities are also very close.

ACADEMIC SESSIONS
Fall semester: October 1 – February 22 (Break December 21 – January 3)

ACCOMMODATION & MEALS
The university has nine different housing options that hold approximately 2,700 students each. You also have the option of living in a self-catering facility.

The university dining hall is positioned close to campus making it very accessible to university students. There are also a variety of reasonably priced cafes and fast food restaurants in the center of town and close to the university.


FINANCIAL AID & SCHOLARSHIPS
Participants in the Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy Program are eligible for the Study Abroad Scholarship and a variety of other funding options. Stop by the Study Abroad Office to find out more.
ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be full-time students at UNI at the time of application, at least sophomore status during the time abroad, have departmental approval for participation, and an overall G.P.A. of 2.5.


PROGRAM COST
The University of Northern Iowa has an exchange with the Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy therefore you will pay UNI tuition. The Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy will either pay for your housing or award you a scholarship to cover the full cost. APPLICATION PROCEDURES & GUIDELINES
A complete set of application materials will include the following:
  • Study Abroad Application Packet. (PDF Link)
  • Biographical Sketch.
  • Statement of Purpose.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation.
  • Official transcript from all institutions previously attended, including UNI.
  • Study Abroad Preliminary Credit Approval Form.
  • Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy Application for Admission and Accommodation.
Upon acceptance into the program, students will be required to complete the following:
  • Medical Self-Assessment
  • Health Insurance Verification
  • Copy of your Birth Certificate
  • Copy of passport
